Columbus Crew 1, D.C. United 1, as Midfielder Aidan Morris’ 25-yard goal saves team from a loss

Match Notes:

  • The Crew earned a 1-1 draw against D.C. United in tonight’s home match at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio.
    • Columbus has scored at least one goal in 23 of its past 24 matches across all competitions, netting 45 goals in the stretch.
    • With tonight’s victory over D.C. United, the Crew have extended their home unbeaten streak to 16 regular season matches, the second-longest streak in club history (22 games from 2008-09).
    • Following tonight’s tie, the Crew are unbeaten against D.C. United in their last five meetings, registering 13 goals in the span.
  • Midfielder Aidan Morris scored a right-footed goal from long range in the 87th minute to level the scoring.
    • Morris registered his second goal in his last three MLS appearances for the Crew.
    • The Homegrown midfielder earned the Nationwide Man of the Match for the effort.
  • With tonight’s appearance, midfielder Darlington Nagbe now ranks 10th for most regular season matches played in MLS history (393), surpassing Brad Davis (392).
    • Nagbe played in his 108th consecutive regular season match, a streak that dates to May 1, 2021 with the Black & Gold. He holds the second-longest stretch in appearances made in MLS regular season play.
  • Defender Will Sands started his first match since sustaining a season-ending injury on April 22, 2023. It was the 13th start of his MLS career.
    • Tonight, Sands recorded 45 minutes played, 18 accurate passes completed (95 percent passing accuracy), and 29 touches.
  • Today’s attendance of 20,740 marked the 21st consecutive MLS sellout at Lower.com Field and the fourth-highest attendance at the venue.
  • The Crew face Tigres UANL in the second leg of the quarterfinals at Estadio Universitario on Tuesday, April 9 at 8:45 p.m. ET. Based on Tuesday’s 1-1 result at Lower.com Field, the Club can advance to the Concacaf Championship Cup Semifinals for the first time in franchise history with:
    • A Crew victory by any margin.
    • A draw with both teams scoring two or more goals.
    • In the event the match is tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the contest will proceed to extra time and potentially penalty kicks.
  • With a Tigres UANL win or 0-0 draw, Tigres would advance to the next round.
