COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew’s 1-1 draw against Houston Dynamo FC in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Match Notes:
- The Crew advance to the Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals following tonight’s 1-1 draw in the second leg of the Round of 16 against Houston Dynamo FC at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio.
- Tonight marked the first ever Concacaf Champions Cup match at Lower.com Field.
- Columbus now holds a 5-0-2 record in Round of 16 matches of the competition.
- The Crew extended their unbeaten streak in Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 matches to five matches. The Crew entered tonight’s contest with four consecutive victories in the round: 3-0 vs. Arabe Unido, March 23, 2003; 4-0 at Real Esteli, April 8, 2021; 1-0 vs. Real Esteli, April 15, 2021; and 1-0 at Houston, March 6, 2024.
- Forward Cucho Hernández scored a right-footed goal in the 39th minute to help Columbus secure a berth in the next round of the tournament.
- The Crew have scored in 19 consecutive matches across all competitions, registering 38 goals.
- Cucho has scored 17 goals in his past 19 appearances across all competitions for the Black & Gold, dating back to the 2023 season.
- Midfielder Derrick Jones started for the Black & Gold tonight after making his Crew debut as a substitute against Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, March 9.
- Jones played a full 90 minutes, recording 48 accurate passes (96 percent passing accuracy), 58 touches, three ground duels won and one aerial duel won.
- The Black & Gold will compete in the Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals against the winner of the Tigres-Orlando City SC series. Official kickoff dates, times and locations of the home-away contest will be announced by Concacaf at a later date. The competition window for Quarterfinals competition is April 2-4 and April 9-11.
- The Crew return to MLS action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. home match against New York Red Bulls.
