CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas director of athletics Dr. Brad Teague announced a change in the head coaching position for the men’s basketball program on Saturday, relieving Coach Anthony Boone of his duties after the conclusion of the season.
UCA finished 9-23 overall and 5-11 in ASUN Conference play, missing out on the conference tournament after Friday’s loss to North Alabama.
“Anthony Boone is a model of leadership,” said Teague. “We could not have asked for a better person to lead our young men. That made the decision to change our direction much more difficult. But, I decided we needed to find a new leader to explore the possibilities of this program.
“I want to thank Coach Boone and his staff for many years of hard work and professionalism for our program. Great coaches of character bring great students of character. We have certainly enjoyed that success here.
“We will move quickly and efficiently to find our new head coach. We will focus on coaching experience, character, and recruiting success.”
Boone was in his fourth full year as the Bears’ head coach after taking over in the middle of the 2019-20 season.
