Men’s Basketball Returns Home To Host DePaul On Tonight

CINCINNATI — The Xavier University Musketeers, 13-14 overall and 7-9 in the BIG EAST Conference, host the DePaul University Blue Demons, 3-24 overall and 0-16 in the BIG EAST, on Wednesday night at Cintas Center.  Xavier graduate student Quincy Olivari, who is second in the BIG EAST in scoring (18.9 ppg.), enters the DePaul game just two points shy of 2,000 for his collegiate career. He scored a career-high 43 points in the first meeting in Chicago on Feb. 3.

Xavier will represent the Cincinnati Lion Tamers and DePaul the Savoy Big 5 in keeping with the BIG EAST’s commitment to BE the Change. For the third straight year, the conference is celebrating Black History Month with a partnership with the Black Fives Foundation, whose mission is to honor the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball.

• Xavier graduate student Quincy Olivari, who is second in the BIG EAST in scoring (18.9 ppg.), enters the DePaul game just two points shy of 2,000 for his collegiate career. He has 1,998 points including his totals at Rice and Xavier.
• Xavier’s Quincy Olivari leads the BIG EAST and is 16th in the nation in 3-point field goals at 3.1 made per game and is second in the BIG EAST and ninth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage at .428.
• Xavier senior Dayvion McKnight is first in the BIG EAST and 13th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.19. He leads the team and is fourth in the BIG EAST in assists at 5.0 apg. and leads the team and is eighth in the league in steals at 1.5 spg. McKnight, who has averaged 15.7 ppg. for the last 11 games, is third on the team in scoring at 12.0 ppg.
• Xavier sophomore Desmond Claude is second on the team in scoring at 15.5 ppg.
(11th in the BIG EAST) and assists at 3.4 apg. (13th in the BIG EAST).
• Xavier senior Abou Ousmane, who had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds vs. Providence on Feb. 21, is fifth in the BIG EAST in offensive rebounding (2.9 rpg.) and is sixth in blocks (1.3 bpg.).
• Xavier is shooting to snap a four-game losing streak.
• Xavier has played the nation’s fifth-toughest schedule per the latest KenPom rankings.

Xavier has 10 newcomers on the 2023-24 roster, including six freshmen who have logged 29.5 percent of the minutes played this season, the most for XU since 1995-96.
• Xavier leads the BIG EAST Conference and is fourth in the nation in fastbreak points at 16.4 ppg. XU is fourth in the BIG EAST and 28th in the nation in assists at 16.5 apg.
