17-year-old Academy Product inks MLS NEXT Pro Professional Contract

COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew 2 have signed Crew Academy forward Brent Adu-Gyamfi to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract for the 2024 season.
“We are proud to sign Brent – a dynamic forward with a knack for putting himself in the right positions to create goal scoring opportunities – to his first professional contract directly from our Academy,” said Crew 2 General Manager, Corey Wray. “He’s joining a strong group of Academy alumni on the Crew 2 roster this year, and we are excited to continue to play a role in his development. Our ultimate goal, throughout the entire Club, is to prepare our athletes for successful careers while helping players develop as individuals. This signing is yet another testament to the Crew Academy’s efforts to propel our athletes throughout the Player Pathway, and we look forward to seeing the strides Brent will make this year at the next level.”
Adu-Gyamfi joined Crew 2 for the 2023 season on an amateur agreement, recording 20 appearances (five starts), 597 minutes and one goal. The forward was recognized as the MLS NEXT Rising Star of Matchday 13 after scoring his first professional goal in the 93rd minute after coming off the bench (65th minute) against Atlanta United 2 on June 15, 2023. The extra-time equalizer led to kicks from the spot which ultimately resulted in a shootout win. Adu-Gyamfi made his Crew 2 debut on April 23, 2023, logging 45 minutes against Crown Legacy FC. During Crew 2’s 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs run, he logged 51 minutes across four matches, including entering in the 78th minute of Crew 2’s second consecutive MLS NEXT Pro Cup appearance at Lower.com Field on Oct. 22, 2023. The Richmond, Va. native joined the Crew Academy in 2019. He was a member of the Crew Academy U-17 squad that finished the 2022 MLS NEXT Cup as finalists. Adu-Gyamfi joins Giorgio De Libera, Stanislav Lapkes and Cole Mrowka as the four Crew Academy players on the current roster who signed professional contracts with Crew 2. |
