Fordham Rams News: Men’s Basketball Travels to #16 Dayton Flyers for 1:30 Saturday Matinee

Rams battle nationally ranked Flyers on national TV

BRONX, N.Y. –  The Fordham University Rams continue the 2023-2024 season, Fordham’s 121st varsity season, and continue Atlantic 10 play by traveling to Dayton, Ohio, to take on the #16/18 University of Dayton Flyers in the UD Arena on Saturday, February 17, at 1:30 p.m.

Join the Ramses Challenge, a philanthropic initiative supporting our student-athletes. Pledge a set amount for each rebound, offensive rebound, steal, or assist. All proceeds are tax-deductible and go directly to the men’s basketball program. There is also an option to make a one-time gift to men’s basketball.

The game will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network with Tom McCarthy (PxP) and Chris Walker (analyst) announcing as well as broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and the WFUV Sports YouTube page with Miles Grossman (PxP) and Colin Loughran (analyst) behind the mics.

Fordham enters the game with a 10-14 overall record, 4-7 in the Atlantic 10, and is coming off an 85-67 Atlantic 10 loss to St. Bonaventure in the Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday night while Dayton enters the game with a 20-4 overall record, 10-2 in the conference, after a 75-59 A-10 win over Duquesne at home last Tuesday.

Saturday afternoon’s contest will be the 42nd meeting between Fordham and Dayton on the hardwood.  The Flyers lead the all-time series, which started in 1952-53, 35-6, and have won 19 of the last 20 match-ups.

• Senior guard Kyle Rose is Fordham’s all-time games played leader with 132 games played.

• Rose has appeared in 126 straight games dating back to his freshman season in 2019-2020.

• Senior guard Japhet Medor leads the Rams in scoring (11.4) and is second in assists (2.7/game) while sophomore guard Will Richardson is second in scoring, averaging 10.3 ppg.

• Over the past 13 games, sophomore guard Will Richardson is averaging 11.5 ppg and 2.8 apg (37 assists/18 turnovers) while senior guard Kyle Rose is averaging 11.8 ppg and 6.0 rpg.

• Over the past eight games, senior guard Antrell Charlton has 27 assists and only eight turnovers.

• Kyle Rose has 201 career steals, sixth all-time at Fordham.

• Rose has 52 steals this year (2.2/game), tied for first in the Atlantic 10, while senior guard Antrell Charlton has 36 (1.5/game), tied for seventh most in the A-10 this season.

• Senior forward Abdou Tsimbila has 55 blocks in 23 games (2.4/game), second in the Atlantic 10.

• Tsimbila has 149 career blocks, sixth all-time at Fordham.

• Tsimbila also leads the Rams in rebounding, averaging 6.3/game, 12th in the Atlantic 10.

• After averaging 2.7 ppg and 2.0 rpg last year, sophomore forward Elijah Gray is averaging 10.2 ppg and 4.3 rpg this year, including his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and eleven rebounds versus Davidson.

• Over the past two years, the Rams are 9-5 in Atlantic 10 road games. The only school with more A-10 road wins over the past two years is VCU with 12 (Dayton also has nine conference road wins over that stretch).

• The Rams did not lose any student-athletes to the transfer portal from 2022-23.

• The Rams continue the 2024 Atlantic 10 season by traveling to Davidson, N.C., to face the Davidson College Wildcats in Belk Arena on Tuesday, February 20, at 7:00 p.m.
