COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 5/5 Ohio State women’s basketball team (19-3, 10-1 B1G) travels to Minnesota (14-8, 4-7 B1G) for a Thursday night tip-off at 9 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on Peacock and AM1460.
- Ohio State holds a 19-3 record this season and is 10-1 in conference play after a 74-69 win against then No. 10/9 Indiana, the Buckeyes’ second top-10 win of the season.
- The Buckeyes erased a five-point halftime deficit with a 23-10 third quarter and held off a late IU push. The Buckeye defense forced 23 Hoosier turnovers and scored 21 points off those turnovers.
- Jacy Sheldon (25) and Cotie McMahon (20) led the Buckeyes’ offense, with Rebeka Mikulasikova and Taylor Thierry each scoring 11 points.
- Sheldon was named to the USBWA Starting Five on Tuesday and McMahon was named to the Big Ten Honor Roll on Monday.
- Minnesota enters the game with a 14-8 overall record and is 4-7 in conference play after falling 76-65 to RV/RV Michigan State on Monday. The Gophers have lost their last four as leading scorer Mara Braun has been sidelined with an injury for some of that time.
- The Gophers’ Big Ten wins include Purdue, Michigan, then RV Nebraska and Michigan State. Minnesota has fallen to the No. 4/3 Iowa, Maryland, then No. 16/16 Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Penn State and Michigan State.
- Behind Braun’s 17.8 points per game, all other four regular starters are averaging double figures – Amaya Battle (10.7), Grace Grocholski (10.6), Sophie Hart (10.0) and Mallory Heyer (10.0). Heyer leads the team with 8.3 rebounds per game.
- Ohio State leads 63-16 in the all-time series against Minnesota and has the 24-11 advantage when facing the Gophers in Minneapolis.
- The Buckeyes and Gophers played twice last season with Ohio State claiming the road victory (83-71) on Jan. 5 in Minneapolis and the home win (93-63) on Feb. 8 in Columbus.
