WASHINGTON, D.C. – Averaging 11.0 points, 12.0 rebound and 2.0 blocks per game, while shooting 50 percent (8-16) from the field in a pair of Saint Joseph’s wins, redshirt freshman Christ Essandoko has been named Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, organization officials announced on Monday.
Opening the week against George Mason on Wednesday, Essandoko grabbed a season-best 15 rebounds and added six points and three blocks in a 75-73 win over the Patriots. At La Salle on Saturday, the starting center tallied 16 points to go with nine rebounds in an 88-82 comeback win over the Explorers. Appearing in 15 games with 12 starts, Essandoko is averaging 8.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for Saint Joseph’s.
Essandoko and the Hawks return to action on Tuesday as they host Dayton in a CBS Sports Network televised game at 8 p.m.
