The Pittsburgh Pirates during the current offseason acquired outfielder Edward Olivares (pronounced oh-lee-VAHR-es) from
the Kansas City Royals in exchange for minor league outfielder Deivis Nadal.

Olivares established career-highs in games, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, stolen bases and
runs scored in 2023 after hitting .263 (93-for-354) with 23 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 36 RBI,
47 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 107 games with the Royals.

The 27-year-old Olivares averaged 416 feet on his 12 home runs during the 2023 campaign, which tied for the fourth-longest average home run distance in the American League (minimum 10 home runs), behind only Matt Wallner (424 feet), Shohei Ohtani (422 feet) and Josh Donaldson (421 feet). Olivares’ 416 foot average home run distance also ranked tied for ninth-best in the Majors.

Olivares also hit .329 (23-for-70) with a .657 slugging percentage in 22 games in September/October,
leading the American League in slugging percentage (minimum 70 at-bats) while ranking third in batting behind Tampa Bay’s Yandy Diaz (.345) and Cleveland’s Andres Gimenez (.333).

Olivares made his big league debut in 2020 with San Diego after being originally signed by Toronto as
a non-drafted free agent in 2014. He has a career average of .261 (186-for-712) with 35 doubles, five
triples, 24 home runs, 73 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 94 runs scored in 230 games between San Diego
(2020) and Kansas City (2020-23).
