Xavier Men’s Basketball heads to Omaha with Three-Game Winning Streak and matchup with Creighton

CINCINNATI — The Xavier University Musketeers, 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the BIG EAST Conference, visit the No. 17 Creighton University Bluejays, 14-5 overall and 5-3 in the BIG EAST, on Tuesday night for an 8:30 p.m. ET game. Xavier enters the game with a three-game winning streak, while Creighton is coming off a wild 97-94 triple overtime win at Seton Hall on Saturday.

Xavier is hoping to continue its recent success against Creighton. XU has won five of the last six meetings vs. CU, although the Bluejays won last year’s game in Omaha.

• Xavier is second in the BIG EAST and 20th in the nation in assists at 17.5 apg. XU leads the BIG EAST and is fourth in the nation in fast break points at 17.4 ppg.
• Xavier is ranked third in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage defense at 40.3 percent and second in 3-point percentage defense at 31.6 percent.
• Xavier grad. student Quincy Olivari is third in the BIG EAST in scoring at 18.1 ppg., second in 3-point field goals per game (2.94) and second in 3-point percentage (.434).
• Xavier senior Dayvion McKnight leads the BIG EAST and is 15th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.50. He is fifth in the BIG EAST in assists at 5.1 per game. McKnight, who averaged 19 ppg. for the last two games, is third on the team in scoring at 10.6 ppg.

• Xavier has 10 newcomers on the 2023-24 roster, including six freshmen who have logged 30 percent of the minutes played this season, the most for XU since 1995-96.
• Xavier freshman Trey Green scored a career-high 23 points at Providence on the strength of five 3-pointers. Green led XU’s big second half with 18 points after halftime.
• Xavier freshman Dailyn Swain contributed seven points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals vs. Georgetown and had the game-winning drive and dunk.
