COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Fury announced the signing of world-champion volleyball player Megan Courtney. The professional outside hitter from Dayton, Ohio, brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and proven success at the highest levels. She is expected to serve as a cornerstone of the Fury roster.

“I’m most looking forward to playing in front of my daughter as well as family and friends,” said Courtney. “Becoming a mother has been my greatest joy and being able to show my daughter and other moms out there just how powerful women are, is an amazing opportunity. I think there’s a ton of potential to grow the sport and to be able to play professionally doing something you love, so close to home, is super exciting.”

Courtney is notably recognized around the globe. She was named both the 2019 FIVB Nations League Best Libero and the Italian A1 Super Cup Most Valuable Player while competing internationally. Later that year, she went on to win gold at the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and Silver at the World Cup while representing Team USA.

Collegiately, Courtney played a pivotal role in helping Penn State University secure back-to-back NCAA championships in 2013 and 2014 and was named the NCAA’s Most Outstanding Player in 2014. As a Nittany Lion, she also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year and the AVCA Mideast Region Freshman of the Year honors. Her success did not stop there, as she went on to represent the USA Women’s National Team where she played in the prestigious 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix and received a gold medal in the 2017 Women’s Pan-American Volleyball Cup.

“Megan brings a lot of experience and credibility to what we’re trying to achieve not only as a club but a league as well,” said head coach, Angel Perez. “The bottom line is she’s a proven winner, and that winning mentality is contagious. We are certainly grateful to have a player of her caliber wearing the Fury uniform and are looking forward to accomplishing great things this season.”

Courtney resides in Columbus with her husband, Mitch Lush, and their new baby girl, Nora.

Off the court, Courtney continues to break down barriers playing professionally as a new mother. Her presence within the community is expected to be an invaluable asset for the Fury organization. Her passion for the game and her unwavering commitment to her craft will undoubtedly resonate with young girls across the region.

The Columbus Fury will begin its inaugural season in the Pro Volleyball Federation in early 2024. A 24-game schedule will include 12 home games at Nationwide Arena. For more information about the Fury and season tickets, visit www.columbusfury.com and @columbusfury on social media.
