NHL News: 2024 NHL All-Star Skills presented by DraftKings Sportsbook Format and Rules

NEW YORK (Jan. 13, 2024) – The National Hockey League (NHL) today announced additional details for the 2024 NHL All-Star Skills presented by DraftKings Sportsbook, which will take place at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 2 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto during the 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend. A revamped format for the NHL All-Star Skills will feature 12 NHL All-Stars competing for points in eight events, with the NHL All-Star who accumulates the most points taking home a prize of $1 million (USD).

Each Player will compete in four of the first six events listed below, earning points for their respective finish in each event.

1) Fastenal NHL Fastest Skater™

2) Rogers NHL Hardest Shot™

3) Scotiabank NHL Passing Challenge™

4) Tim Hortons NHL One Timers™

5) Upper Deck NHL Stick Handling™

6) Cheetos NHL Accuracy Shooting™

7) Honda NHL One-on-One™

8) Pepsi NHL Obstacle Course™

The top eight point-earners will advance to the seventh event of the 2024 NHL All-Star Skills presented by DraftKings Sportsbook: the Honda NHL One-on-One, where each Player will choose which goalie they shoot against. Following the Honda NHL One-on-One, the top six point-earners will advance to the eighth and final event: the Pepsi NHL Obstacle Course, where the point totals are doubled.

The NHL All-Star with the most points accumulated after the eight events will be crowned the winner of the 2024 NHL All-Star Skills presented by DraftKings Sportsbook and will earn $1 million.

Descriptions of each event are listed below. In addition, this video summarizes the event’s format.

EVENT 1 – Fastenal NHL Fastest Skater™

Participants

▪ A minimum of four players

           

Procedure / Winner

▪ Player skates one full lap around rink

▪ Player with the fastest time wins

EVENT 2 – Rogers NHL Hardest Shot™

Participants

▪ A minimum of four players

Procedure / Winner

▪ Player attempts two shots, with hardest shot in MPH being counted

▪ Player with hardest shot wins

EVENT 3 – Scotiabank NHL PASSING CHALLENGE™

Participants

▪ A minimum of four players

Procedure / Winner

▪ While skating, player passes to targets spread throughout the rink

▪ Each target has varying point values within the target

▪ Player with the most points wins

EVENT 4 – Tim Hortons NHL ONE TIMERS™

Participants

▪ A minimum of four players & one passer

Procedure / Winner

▪ Player attempts 3 one timers from 3 designated positions on ice

▪ Points are awarded based on the placement of the puck in the net

▪ Player with the most points wins

EVENT 5 – Upper Deck NHL Stick Handling™

Participants

▪ A minimum of four players

Procedure / Winner

▪ Players must complete the following,

  • Toe Drag – Player toe drags puck around a preset obstacle
  • Cone Course – Player skates through a series of cones
  • Stickhandling – Player controls the puck through a series of pucks

▪ Player with the fastest time wins

EVENT 6 – Cheetos NHL ACCURACY SHOOTING™

Participants

▪ A minimum of four players & four passers

Procedure / Winner

▪ Player shoots at 4 targets positioned in each corner of the net

▪ Player who hits all 4 targets in the fastest time wins

EVENT 7 – Honda NHL ONE-ON-ONE™

Participants

▪ The top 8 players following events 1 – 6

▪ Eight All-Star goalies

Procedure / Winner

▪ Each player will compete One-on-One against an All-Star goalie of his choosing

▪ A set number of pucks will be positioned on the ice

▪ Each goal counts as one point

▪ The player with the most points wins

EVENT 8 – Pepsi NHL OBSTACLE COURSE™

Participants

▪ The top 6 players following event 7

Procedure / Winner

▪ Players will compete in a series of obstacles, testing several skills

▪ Will be a combination of speed, accuracy, stick handling, and passing

▪ Player completing the course with the fastest time wins the Pepsi NHL Obstacle Course

The 2024 NHL® All-Star Weekend will be hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena, and will include NHL All-Star Thursday on Feb. 1, NHL All-Star Skills™ presented by DraftKings Sportsbook on Friday, Feb. 2, and the Honda (U.S.) / Rogers (Canada) NHL® All-Star Game on Saturday, Feb. 3.
