OXFORD, Ohio— Eian Elmer scored a career-high 23 points and added six rebounds as the Miami University men’s basketball team topped Eastern Michigan in a 71-54 win Saturday afternoon. Bryce Bultman added 14 points and a game-high six assists for the RedHawks (8-8, 2-2 MAC), while Anderson Mirambeaux scored 11 points and seven rebounds. Tyson Acuff led the Eagles (8-8, 1-3 MAC) with 19 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami jumped out to an early 6-3 lead after Elmer recorded the first six points of the game for the RedHawks. The Red and White remained ahead 11-7 thanks to a transition three from Bultman. Miami proceeded to score five unanswered points, which was highlighted by a Reece Potter dunk with 11:14 on the game clock.
- The Red and White took their first double-digit lead of the game (23-12) after Bultman put in a layup with 7:47 remaining in the half. A collection of free throws and a strong finish from Darweshi Hunter kept Miami ahead 29-18.
- A Jaquel Morris block led to Hunter taking the ball coast-to-coast for a layup. The Eagles used a 9-0 run to shrink the score to 31-27 with 1:01 to play in the half. Mirambeaux found Elmer off of a backdoor cut to end the run at 33-27. The Red and White entered halftime with a 33-28 advantage.
- Bultman came out of the intermission with a layup and an assist to Potter for three to make it 38-30. Butlman continued to facilitate, finding Elmer in the right corner to bring the score to 41-32. Mirambeaux put in a floating jump shot to reclaim a double-figure lead at 45-34 with 14:53 remaining.
- The Eagles responded by going on an 11-0 run to even the score at 45 apiece. Elmer proceeded to knock down a jump shot and layup to regain momentum at 49-45. Numerous free throws from Bultman and Elmer brought the score to 55-48 with six minutes to play. Miami went on to end the game on a 16-6 run to secure a 71-54 victory.
GAME NOTES:
- Miami led for 39:01 (97.5% of the game).
- Elmer and Hunter each led all players with two blocks.
- Mekhi Cooper recorded a game-high two steals.
