UD Basketball News: Flyers NBA prospect DaRon Holmes II Named A-10 Player Of The Week

Holmes Had 27 Points, 10 Rebounds, 4 Assists, 2 Steals & 2 Blocked Shots In Dayton’s Win On Saturday

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – University of Dayton forward DaRon Holmes II has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week after his performance UD’s win over Longwood Saturday.

Holmes had 27 points (9-123 FG, 3-5 3-pt.) with 10 rebounds, four assists (zero turnovers), two steals and two blocked shots in the Flyers’ 10th win of the season.

The junior from Goodyear, Ariz. leads UD in scoring (17.7, fourth in the A-10) and rebounding (7.3, fifth in the A-10).  He is the only player in the Atlantic 10 conference in the top five in both categories.

He is also the only player in D-I who has at least 25 blocks, 25 dunks and 25 assists.  Holmes has 28, 26 and 33 respectively.   He also has 10 threes and is shooting .435 (10-23) from deep.

Holmes is on three prestigious preseason watch lists — Atlanta Tip-Off Club’s Naismith Award, the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s John R. Wooden Award and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame’s Karl Malone Award.

Dayton, 10-2 on the season, will visit Davidson on Wednesday in the A-10 opener for both teams.
