COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will wrap-up non-conference play on Saturday with a neutral site matchup against West Virginia. The game will be the third game of the Legends of Basketball Showcase at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland. Ohio plays Davidson at 1:30 p.m., Akron plays St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m. and Ohio State and West Virginia will tip at 7 p.m. on FOX. Jason Benetti and Ohio State legend Jim Jackson will call the action.
- This will be the second-consecutive meeting in Cleveland between the two teams. West Virginia won the last game 77-68 on Dec. 29, 2019. Kaleb Wesson led four Buckeyes in double-figures with 17 points.
- The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 9-8 but West Virginia has won eight of the last nine meetings since Ohio State won eight consecutive games.
- Ohio State is 3-0 this season in neutral site games, winning both games at the Emerald Coast Classic and beating UCLA in the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta. West Virginia is 0-3 in its three neutral site games this year.
- The Buckeyes enter the game at 10-2 overall and is coming off a 78-36 thumping of New Orleans on Dec. 21. Jamison Battle made five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points. Zed Key made his first start of the season in place of Felix Okpara who was out with an illness and finished with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. The Buckeye defence held UNO to under 20 points in each half and the 36 points were the fewest allowed in a game in nearly ten years.
- Ohio State is currently 28th in the NET and 27th in Kenpom. The Buckeyes have the 20th best offensive efficiency and the 44th best defensive efficiency according to Kenpom.
- Bruce Thornton has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, including each of the last nine games. He has 49 assists and just 10 turnovers this season, which is good enough for a Top 5 ratio nationally.
- Battle leads the Big Ten with 31 three-point field goals this season and is just 12 three-pointers away from 300 in his career. He is shooting nearly 42 percent from long range this season, which is the best percentage of his career.
- West Virginia comes into the game at 5-7 overall following a 91-81 victory over Toledo last Saturday. Quinn Slazinski has started all 12 games and is averaging 15.9 points per game. RaeQuan Battle, who became eligible following a temporary restraining order against the NCAA on Dec. 13, has scored 29 points in each of the two games he’s played this season.
