Ohio State Women’s Basketball News: No. 17/13 Buckeyes and -/RV Wolverines Meet in Ann Arbor Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 17/13 Ohio State women’s basketball team (10-2, 1-0 B1G) travels to -/RV Michigan (10-3, 1-0 B1G) for a Saturday matinee, scheduled for noon. The game will be broadcast on FOX and 1460AM.

  • Ohio State holds a 10-2 record this season after wrapping up its non-conference schedule with an 84-55 win against Belmont on Dec. 22. The Buckeyes tallied a team-high 12 three-pointers, won the rebounding battle 37-29, totaled 11 steals and forced 23 turnovers.
  • Jacy Sheldon tied her season-high 31 points to lead the game, while Celeste Taylor also tied high season-high 15 points. Rikki Harris chipped in 10 points as the trio shot 10-of-19 (.526) from behind the arc. Taylor Thierry led the game with nine rebounds.
  • Sheldon was named to the USBWA Weekly Starting Five on Wednesday after a pair of 30-point games last week.
  • -/RV Michigan enters the game with a 10-3 overall record and is 1-0 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines defeated Florida A&M by a 77-35 margin on Dec. 22 in the non-conference finale.
  • The Wolverines hold wins against Purdue Fort Wayne, Oakland, Middle Tennessee, South Dakota, Eastern Michigan, SIUE, Harvard, Illinois, Miami (OH) and Florida A&M and have lost to then No. 23 Mississippi, Toledo and Florida.
  • Laila Phelia leads the Michigan offense with 14.3 ppg this season, while Lauren Hansen also averages double figures (11.2 ppg). Cameron Williams leads the Wolverines on the boards (5.7 rpg).
  • Ohio State leads 59-16 in the all-time series against Michigan and is 25-10 when facing the Wolverines in Ann Arbor.
  • During the 2022-23 season, the Buckeyes earned a 66-57 victory in Covelli on New Year’s Eve and then defeated the Wolverines by a 74-61 mark on Feb. 20 in Ann Arbor. The teams met for a third time in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals where OSU claimed an 81-79 victory.
