INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON – Wright State redshirt freshman Drey Carter has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the League office announced on Monday.

Carter continued the strong start to his collegiate career this week with a career-best 12 points and seven rebounds, while adding three assists, in Wright State’s Horizon League opening win against IUPUI on Wednesday before adding five points and three rebounds in Saturday’s road contest at Davidson.

Carter played 16 minutes in both contests last week, connecting at 55 percent from the floor with a 46 percent mark from the free throw stripe. He was 5-of-7 from the floor with a pair of free throws in the Wednesday win over IUPUI, evenly splitting his seven rebounds with four on the offensive glass and three on the defensive end, while adding the three assists to his first-ever double-digit scoring output. Against Davidson, he added three rebounds and a pair of steals to his five-point effort off the bench.

Over his first eight collegiate contests, Carter has tallied four or more points in each game, including a stretch of six points in five straight games leading up to the 12-point output against IUPUI. Carter is shooting 63 percent from the floor overall and 61 percent at the free throw stripe with 24 total rebounds, seven assists and three steals. He has added multiple rebounds in six of the eight games and has just four turnovers on the season while averaging over 13 minutes per contest as part of the main rotation.

Carter and Wright State now get set for a four-game homestand ahead of the holiday break to close out the remainder of the non-conference schedule. The stretch begins Thursday night with a 7 p.m. tipoff against Bethel inside the Nutter Center.
