The Mustangs likewise capped an 8-0 season in conference play with a 59-14 win against Navy Saturday in Dallas.
The schools finished tied atop the American Athletic Conference standings, but Tulane won the tiebreaker to determine home-field advantage for the championship game as the highest-ranked team in last Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings to win in the final week of regular-season play.
Tulane will make its second consecutive appearance in The American Championship Game, while SMU plays in the game for the first time. The Green Wave defeated UCF for its first conference title in 2022
