BOISE, Idaho – Boise State director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Sunday that Andy Avalos has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the football program. Defensive coordinator Spencer Danielson will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

“I am grateful for the passion, effort and dedication Andy has given to our community and his alma mater while serving as our head coach,” Dickey said. “Andy will always be a Bronco and we wish him and his family all the best in their next steps.”

A national search for a new head coach will commence immediately.

WRITER’S NOTES:

On November 12, with Boise State sitting 5-5 (4-2 in Mountain West play), Avalos was fired with two games remaining in the regular season. Avalos finished 22-14 (17-6 conference) three seasons.

What is tough about the situation is the 42-year-old Avalos, is a former star for the Broncos, as a linebacker from 2001-2004.

He was the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year in 2022.
