DAYTON — The University of Dayton football team will wrap up the 2023 home schedule Saturday when the Flyers host Marist.

UD is 2-7 overall and 0-6 in the Pioneer Football League after the Flyers’ last game, a 21-7 loss at Valparaiso on Nov. 4.

At halftime, one of them will be named the recipient of the Lt. Andy Zulli Trophy.

Linebacker Aiden McKinley was named PFL Co-Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 15 tackles (9 solo) and 5.5 TFL.  The 5.5 TFL are the most in the PFL this year.

GOOD NEWS WORTH REPEATING
The Flyers entered the season with the fourth-best winning percentage (.7273, 176-66) in FCS football since 2000 AND have produced the most football Academic All-Americans (36) in Division I in the same time frame.  The top five in winning percentage were North Dakota State (.807), Harvard (.749), Montana (.748), Dayton (.7273) and San Diego (.7269).

700 CLUB
The Flyers are one of nine FCS teams to win 700 games.  The previous eight members of the FCS 700 Win Club are Yale, Harvard, Penn, Princeton, North Dakota State, Dartmouth, Delaware and Lehigh.

PFL POWER
• The Pioneer Football League is in its 31st season.  The original (and now the only) Division I strictly need-based football league began with charter members Butler, Dayton, Drake, Evansville, San Diego and Valparaiso.
• The Flyers’ 136-53 record is the best in PFL history.
• UD’s 12 league championships are the most in PFL history.  San Diego also has 12.

SCOUTING THE RED FOXES
• Marist is 4-5 on the season, with all of the Red Fox wins coming in the Pioneer Football league play.  Marist is 4-3 in the PFL after getting off to a 4-1 start.
• The Red Foxes lead FCS football this season in fumbles recovered, with 12.
• There are 13 players in the PFL with two fumble recoveries this year (including Dayton’s Nathan Arthur and Aiden McKinley), and Marist has four of them — Mike Arrington, Carter James, Miles Kauderer, and Nick Vecchiarelli.
• Kyle Coffindaffer is second in the PFL in fumbles forced (2, tied with UD’s McKinley and Matt Lenti).
• Tristan Shannon leads the PFL in combined kick return yardage (585).
• Quarterback Brock Bagnozzi is third in the league in completions per game (15.6).  On the year, Bagnozzi is 140 of 263 passing (.532)for 1,511 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions.
• Arrington, Bagnozzi, Dominic Dutton and Jackson Willettte are the Red Fox captains.  Arrington is the first three-year captain in coach Jim Parady’s 32 seasons at Marist.
