Ohio State Football News: Road Trip to Madison, Wisconsin and a meeting with always-tough Badgers Next Up for #3 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State travels to Madison, Wisc., for the first time in eight years to take on the Wisconsin Badgers in a 7:30 p.m. game Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

First and Ten

  • Eight years ago, Oct. 15, 2016, Ohio State defeated Wisconsin in overtime, 30-23, in the last game between the two teams at Camp Randall Stadium.
  • Luke Fickell was Ohio State’s DC/LB coach in that 2016 game. It would ultimately be his final season at Ohio State after coaching for 16 years at his alma mater where he started a then-school record 50 consecutive games at DT between 1993-96.
  • The last two games between the Buckeyes and the Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium have gone to overtime, including a 21-14 Ohio State win in 2012.
  • Ohio State has won nine consecutive games over Wisconsin, including Big Ten championship game wins in 2014, 2017 and 2019.
  • No. 18 Wisconsin defeated No. 1 Ohio State, 31-18, at Camp Randall Stadium on Oct. 16, 2010, for its last win in the series.
  • The next meeting: in 2025, in Madison.

  • Ohio State and Wisconsin have played 85 times since first meeting in 1913.
  • Ohio State holds a 62-18-5 advantage in the all-time series and a 27-11-2 edge in games played in Madison, Wisc.

School-Related Notes

  • Luke Fickell red-shirted the 1992 season at Ohio State and then started a school-record 50 consecutive games at DT.
  • He recorded 212 career tackles (at tackle!) with 26 TFLs (for minus-85 yards) with six sacks and 13 pass break-ups.
  • Ohio State and Wisconsin played 49 consecutive years between 1948-96.
  • Three-time Ohio State captain (2018-20) LB Tuf Borland is a GA on defense for the Badgers.
  • 2017 Ohio State captain Chris Worley is Wisconsin’s director of player development.

  • Ohio State defeated Notre Dame at night on Sept. 23 to improve to 77-29 all-time in night games and 37-11 in road night games.
  • The Buckeyes have won 15 consecutive regular season night games (Purdue, 2018), and are 8-2 in night games vs. Wisconsin and 1-2 at Camp Randall Stadium.

18-6: Wins over No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 7 Penn State have Ryan Day’s teams now 18-6 vs. Top 25 opponents; a .750 winning pct. that is No. 1 among active coaches with at least 10 such games.

4th: Ohio State’s defense continues to excel. Second-year DC/LB Coach Jim Knowles’ unit is fourth nationally allowing 260.2 yards per game and it is third nationally allowing just 10.0 points per game.

No. 3: Cade Stover ranks No 3. nationally among tight ends – and No. 2 among active players – in both receptions and receiving yards with 27 and 429, respectively. The two-time captain has 3 TDs.

WR1: Marvin Harrison Jr.’s 18.24 yards per reception average is No. 1 nationally among all players who have at least 40 receptions. His 766 receiving yards and 109.4 yards per game each rank 7th nationally.
