COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State safety Lathan Ransom has been named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.

A senior from Tucson, Ariz., Ransom finished with a career-high 13 tackles on Saturday night in Ohio State’s dramatic 17-14 win at No. 9 Notre Dame. He also added a quarterback hurry as the Ohio State defense limited Notre Dame to 175 yards passing and forced a punt on the Irish’s second-to-last drive of the game. That defensive stand was followed by the Buckeyes’ game-winning touchdown drive.

Through four games, Ransom is tied for the team lead among defensive backs with 20 tackles. He’s also added a quarterback hurry, a forced fumble and 0.5 tackles for loss for a defense that ranks fifth nationally in passing defense (149.0 yards allowed per game) and 18th in pass efficiency defense (104.2). Ohio State has surrendered just two passing touchdowns this season.
