The massive matches continue this week, as the Columbus Crew visits the New England Revolution on Wednesday night with a chance to swap spots in the Eastern Conference standings.

Only three regular season games remain, and Wednesday night’s match is the only game in which the Crew’s upcoming opponent is currently ranked higher in the conference. The team is fifth with 50 points from 31 games, while New England is third with 52 points from 30 games. This is your textbook “six pointer,” where three points obviously helps you, but it also means less possible points for your opponent to catch up. The Crew has clinched a spot in the 2023 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs already, but these matches, while they’re a litmus test, are about home-field advantage in the postseason. It’s too early to look ahead to this weekend, but the next opposition is only one point back of the Crew.

As stated earlier, the Revolution is third in the Eastern Conference, but it’s climb up the standings has been significantly different for Columbus. With his converted penalty in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union, Cucho’s up to 14 goals and 11 assists this season. Both stats lead the team. The Colombian is only the fourth player in team history with at least 25 goal contributions in a single season.
