OAKLAND, Calif. — A’s designated hitter and outfielder Brent Rooker has been selected to the American League All-Star team for the 93rd Major League Baseball All-Star Game presented by Mastercard on Tuesday, July 11, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. It is his first career All-Star selection.
He is the first A’s designated hitter to be represented at the All-Star Game. The last time Oakland had an outfielder selected to the All-Star Game was Yoenis Céspedes in 2014.
Rooker, 28, is hitting .241 with 12 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, and 39 RBI in 71 games this season. In the month of April, Rooker slashed .358/.471/.791 with nine home runs, 22 RBI, and 14 walks. He earned American League Player of the Week honors for the week of April 24-30 after hitting .417 (10-for-24) with one double, five home runs, and 11 RBI. He was the first A’s player to be named AL Player of the Week since Frankie Montas in August 2019 and first position player since Mark Canha in August 2019.
In four Major League seasons, Rooker has 25 doubles, 23 home runs, 62 RBI, and 50 walks. He was drafted by the Twins in the 1st round (35th overall) of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Mississippi State University. After stints with the Twins (2020-2021), Padres (2022), and Royals (2022), Rooker was claimed off waivers by the A’s in November 2022.
