Goal & Assist Help Two-time USL Championship MVP to First Weekly Recognition of 2023 Campaign

Solomon Asante

TAMPA/INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, April 25, 2023) – Indy Eleven forward Solomon Asante was named to the honorable mention “bench” for the USL Championship’s Team of the Week for Week 7 today thanks to his offensive efforts in last Saturday’s match against Monterey Bay F.C.

The influential Ghanaian attacker put his stamp on the Eleven’s eventual 2-3 defeat to MBFC during the first half, starting with his first goal of the 2023 campaign. The five-foot, five-inch winger was the shortest player on the field, but still managed to stand tall at the six-yard box to head home Aodhan Quinn’s 23rd corner kick that evened the match at 1-1 at the time.

In the 40th minute, Asante played provider by placing an inch-perfect through ball behind the Monterey Bay backline for Sebastian Guenzatti to run on to, with his eventual first-time finish putting the Eleven ahead 2-1 going into the halftime break. The assist was Asante’s first in regular season action in 2023 and his fourth all official competitions when combined with his three assists against Michigan Stars FC in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play back on April 5 that drove the Eleven to a 3-1 win in Second Round play.

The two-time USL Championship MVP is now the fourth Boy in Blue to earn a weekly recognition from the USL Championship:
GK Yannik Oettl (Week 1)
MF Bryam Rebellon (Week 3)
DF Adrian Diz Pe (Week 3 – bench)
FW Solomon Asante (Week 7 – bench)

Monterey Bay F.C. forward Christian Volesky was voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball for the second time this season after recording a goal and assist in MBFC’s triumph at Carroll Stadium. For the full Week 7 Team of the Week listing, visit uslchampionship.com.
