2022 Defending Dayton Regional Champion Red Scare To Defend Home Court This Summer

DAYTON — The Basketball Tournament (TBT), the 64-team, $1 million winner-take-all event, today announced that Dayton will once again serve as one of the sites for the 2023 event, hosted by the University of Dayton. Red Scare, the Dayton alumni team, will serve as the featured team in the eight-team Dayton Regional taking place at UD Arena.  The Arena will also host a TBT quarterfinals game for the second year in a row.  The games in Dayton will take place July 25-30.

“We are excited to bring TBT back to UD Arena again this summer,” said TBT founder and CEO Jon Mugar. “The university and its staff have always been first class hosts. There was so much excitement around last year’s regional and Dayton fans showed up in force, resulting in two of our top 10 all-time attendances.”

“We’re very happy that we were able to work it out to bring a TBT regional back to the Arena this summer,” UD Arena Executive Director Scott DeBolt said.  “It’s great that we can provide an opportunity for our Flyer basketball alumni to come back and play for the Red Scare, and for the Flyer Faithful to come out and cheer them on.”

Now in their second year as a host, Red Scare returns to UD Arena as the defending 2022 Dayton Regional Champions. Playing in front of several thousand Dayton fans on a nightly basis, Red Scare made it all the way to TBT’s semifinals, the longest run in the team’s four-year history, before falling to eventual TBT champion Blue Collar U.

The team will continue to be organized by former Dayton basketball players Joey Gruden and Jeremiah Bonsu, and Gruden will serve as the team’s head coach for the fifth straight summer. Current commitments for Red Scare include Darrell Davis, Ryan Mikesell, and Josh Cunningham.

Red Scare will continue making roster announcements throughout the spring via their Twitter page, @FlyersTBT.

Tickets for all TBT games in Dayton will go on sale on May 1, but fans who join TBT’s ticket waitlist will receive early access. TBT’s ticket waitlist can be joined by signing up at TheTournament.com/TBT/ticket-waitlist/
