The NHL’s premier global esports competition — the 2023 EA SPORTS™ NHL 23 World Championship™ — is back with more opportunities to compete and win than ever before. CHEL Intel is the weekly newsletter that keeps everyone up-to-date on tournament news.
The North American Console Finals continued this past weekend, leaving only eight (8) players in contention for the EA SPORTS NHL 23 North American Championship. Both the reigning Champion Regs_84 and Runner-up Gren-35-,as well as the top-seeded players from each of the console generation brackets, failed to advance past the Quarterfinals, leaving a wide-open field to contend for this year’s title.
Of the players remaining, only David ‘Jr Pens’ Roebuck (Pittsburgh Penguins) has NHL Gaming World Championship experience past the Quarterfinal round. The 26-year-old native of Forty Fort, Pa. was the 2018 NHL GWC World runner-up and placed in the Top 4 at the U.S. Regionals in 2019 and 2020. He also represented the Penguins in the 2021 and 2022 GWC tournament.
The North American Championship continues on April 29 and 30, when the top two players from each console generation will move on to the EA SPORTS NHL 23 North American Championship, to be contested on May 20 at District E Powered by Ticketmaster in Washington, D.C.
