RALEIGH, N.C. — 2023 Frozen Four All-Tournament Team member, Hobey Baker Top 10 selection and Richter Award finalist Yaniv Perets is heading to the NHL.

The Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, Canada native signed a contract with the Carolina Hurricanes, the organization announced during the second intermission of tonight’s contest with the Detroit Red Wings.

After anchoring the Bobcats to their first national championship in program history, the now-sophomore netminder will leave Bobcat Nation as one of the most decorated goalies that Rand Pecknold has had in his 29 years at the helm.

Perets currently leads the program’s leaderboard in career goals-against average (1.34), save percentage (.935) and shutouts (21), while standing fifth in career wins with 56 and ninth in total saves with 1,386 to his name.

He also set the NCAA’s single-season GAA record a season ago, recording a 1.17 goals-against average by allowing 36 goals in 1,841 minutes between the pipes.

He made 49 saves on 50 shots during the Bridgeport Regional of the NCAA Tournament, earning Most Outstanding Player honors during that portion of the national championship run.

Among the NCAA career ranks, he is second in goals-against average, tied for third in shutouts and tied for sixth in career save percentage. He was also the fastest netminder to reach 20 career shutouts in NCAA history.

Two Bobcats currently skate with NHL squads, with Devon Toews currently with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche, and Connor Clifton on the Boston Bruins, who just set the NHL record for most wins in a season with 63.

Carolina has one more game left on its regular season slate, taking on Florida on Thursday in Sunrise before beginning the NHL playoffs. They stand one point ahead of New Jersey and two ahead of the Rangers and are slated to play the best Wild Card team out of the Eastern Conference in the NHL playoffs, should things stand.
