Kent State Golden Flashes are going dancing! MAC Champions ready for NCAA Tourney

CLEVELAND – The Kent State University men’s basketball team (28-6) won the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championship, defeating the top-seeded Toledo Rockets (27-7).

“Our guys deserved what happened tonight. This team has been through a lot together and has earned the right to play and the right to win and advance to the NCAA Tournament,” exclaimed head coach Rob Senderoff. “I’m just really, really proud of the entire group.” 

The championship is the seventh in program history and the second under Coach Senderoff. After taking down Northern Illinois in the first round at home, Kent State went on to defeat the seventh, third, and first seeds in succession. The win gives the Golden Flashes an automatic bid into the 2022 NCAA Tournament, with the selection show taking place Sunday at 6:00 p.m. on NCAA March Madness Live.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — No. 2 Kent State took down the No. 1 seeded Toledo Rockets, 93-78 to secure a Mid-American Conference Men’s Basketball Championship title. The Golden Flashes where led by Tournament MVP Sincere Carry who tallied 26 points. This marks Kent State’s first tournament win since 2017.
