CLEVELAND, Ohio –The fifth-seeded Ohio men’s basketball team (19-13) continues play at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Friday, March 10 when the Bobcats take on No. 1 Toledo. TIp-off is set for 5 p.m. inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The Bobcats matchup will be seen on CBS Sports Network where Chris Lewis, Michael O’Donnell and Justin Walters will be on the call. 

The Bobcats’ matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield. Russ Eisenstein returns for his 15th season as the “Voice of the Bobcats” and will be joined by Ohio alum Rob Cornlius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for two decades. WXTQ (Power 105) in Athens returns as the 11-station network’s flagship. 

STORYLINES
• The Bobcats are 46-33 (.569) all-time in the MAC Tournament  and have captured seven league tournament crowns (1983, 1985, 1994, 2005, 2010, 2012, 2021). 
• Ohio is making its 42nd appearance in the MAC Tournament in 2023. 
• Jeff Boals is 6-1 as a head coach in the MAC Tournament. 
• This is the 136th all-time meeting between Ohio and Toledo.
• Ohio leads the all-time series, 70-65.

• Dwight Wilson III recorded his 1,000th career rebound on Feb, 21 against NIU, making him the fourth Bobcat in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds and the fourth to have at least 1,000 points and a 1,000 rebounds. 
• Ohio is ranked 138th in the latest NET Rankings, with Toledo ranked 79th.
• In the NCAA, Ohio ranks 54th in total rebounds per game and 46th in offensive rebounds per game.
• Ohio also ranks 34th in three point percentage, 41st in three pointers made and 34th in scoring offense. The Bobcats also rank 36th in bench points per game.

SCOUTING NO. 1 TOLEDO
Toledo enters the matchup with Ohio as the first seed in this year’s tournament with a 26-6 record and the nation’s second-longest winning streak at 16 games Toledo defeated Miami, 92-75 in the quarterfinals Thursday morning, 

Overall, Toledo averages 85.9 points a game, while shooting .498 from the field, .404 from three and .774 from the line. Toledo also averages 34.4 rebounds a game, 15.3 assists and 6.9 steals a game. Toledo also forces 12.8 turnovers a game. 

Meanwhile, Opponents average 76.0 points and 33.4 rebounds a game. Opponents also shoot .457 from the field, .359 from three and .748 from the line. Opponents also dish out 13.6 assists and grab 5.2 steals a game, while also forcing 9.7 turnovers a game. 

Individually, MAC Player of the Year RayJ Dennis averages 19.3 points and 5.9 assists a game. He shoots .491 from the field, .379 from three and .757 from the line. JT Schumate adds 16.5 points and 4.8 rebounds a game, while shooting .543 from the field, .409 from three and .871 from the line. Setric Millner Jr. adds 16.0 points and 5.8 rebounds a game, while Dante Maddox Jr. adds 11.4 points a contest. 

SCOUTING OHIO
Ohio enters the matchup with Ohio as the fifth seed with a 19-13 record after defeating Ball State, 90-70 in the MAC Quarterfinals Thursday afternoon.  

As a team, Ohio is averaging 79.0 points and 37.4 rebounds a game, while opponents average 72.8 points and 34.6 rebounds a game. The Bobcats are also shooting .461 from the field, .375 from three and .729 from the line. Ohio also adds 12.7 assists, 6.7 steals and force 12.4 turnovers a game.

Opponents are shooting .443 from the field, .340 from three and .676 from the line, while dishing out 12.3 assists, 5.8 steals and 11.0 turnovers a game.

Individually, Dwight Wilson III leads Ohio with 15.7 points a game, while shooting .620 from the field, while also averaging 9.2 rebounds a game. Jaylin Hunter adds 12.7 points and 4.3 assists a game, while Miles Brown and AJ Brown both add 10.2 points a game.

LAST TIME AGAINST TOLEDO

Toledo out-rebounded Ohio, 35-34, and dished out 17 assists to the Bobcats’ 13. The Bobcats forced 15 turnovers and recorded 10 steals. 

Individually, the Bobcats were led by a career-high 21 points from Elmore James. James went 8-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three and 3-of-4 from the line. Dwight Wilson III added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Jaylin Hunter scored 10 points and dished out four assists. Ben Roderick also scored 10 points and five rebounds. 

For Toledo RayJ Dennis led the Rockets with 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while JT Shumate added 21 points. 

ALL MAC AWARDS
Dwight Wilson III was named Second Team All-MAC. 

Jaylin Hunter was named All-MAC Honorable Mention. 

AJ Brown and Elmore James were named to the MAC All-Freshman Team. 

WHAT A MAC TOURNY DEBUT
Freshman AJ Brown made a splash in his debut in Cleveland on Thursday. Brown scored a career-high 28 points, while grabbing a career-high seven rebounds and hitting a career-high five threes.

Dwight Wilson III recorded his 1,000th career rebound on Feb, 21 against NIU, making him the fourth Bobcat in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds and the fourth to have at least 1,000 points and a 1,000 rebounds.

As Dwight Wilson III’s career begins to wind down, he is looking at cementing his mark in a number of spots in the Ohio record book. 

Currently, Wilson III has an Ohio career .635 field goal percentage, which will cement his as Ohio’s all-time leader in field goal percentage, topping Leon Williams career .608 field goal percentage.  

He recorded his 1,000th career rebound on Feb, 21 against NIU, making him the fourth Bobcat in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds and the fourth to have at least 1,000 points and a 1,000 rebounds.
