Ohio Bobcats News: Four Men’s Basketball Players Earn All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Four Ohio men’s basketball players have earned All-Mid-American Conference honors, the league announced on Wednesday (March 8). Graduate student forward Dwight Wilson III was named Second Team All-MAC, junior guard Jaylin Hunter was named All-MAC Honorable Mention, while freshmen guards AJ Brown and Elmore James earned a spot on the MAC All-Freshman Team. 

Dwight Wilson III

This is the second time Wilson III (Tallahassee Fla.) has been named to an All-MAC team. Wilson III finished the season leading Ohio with 15.9 points and 9.1 rebounds a game. He played in 30 games this season, making 30 starts, while shooting .620 from the field and .712 from the line. During MAC play, Wilson III played and started all 18 games, while averaging 17.5 points and 8.9 rebounds a game, while shooting .645 from the field and .709 from the line. Wilson III scored a career-high 31 points on Jan. 24 against Western Michigan and grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds at BGSU on Jan. 7. He also grabbed his 1,000th career rebound on Feb. 21 against Northern Illinois, making his only the fourth Bobcat in program history to have 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. This season he led Ohio in scoring 12 times, with 10 double doubles and led the team in rebounding 26 times. 

Jaylin Hunter

Hunter (Manchester, Conn.), played in 31 games for Ohio this season, making 30 starts. Hunter finished his first season in the Green and White second on the Bobcats in scoring with 12.7 points a game, while shooting .439 from the field, .393 from three and .757 from the line. He also averaged 4.3 assists and 1.7 steals a game. In MAC play, Hunter averaged 15.1 points and 4.1 assists a game. He shot .472 from the field, .422 from three and .741 from the line. He led Ohio in scoring nine times this season and led Ohio in assists 27 times, while recording four 20-point games. Hunter scored a career-high 25 points against Akron on Feb. 10 in Athens and had a career-high six steals at Central Michigan on Feb. 18. Hunter was also named the MAC Player of the week on Feb. 13. 

AJ Brown

Brown (Orlando, Fla.) played in 24 games for Ohio while making eight starts in his first season in Athens. Overall, Brown averaged 9.5 points, while shooting .413 from the field, .367 from three and .760 from the line. In MAC play, Brown averaged 8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds, while shooting .336 from the field, .333 from three and .828 from the line. Brown scored a career-high 18 points against UC Clermont on Nov. 30 and grabbed a career-high five rebounds twice this season. He also hit three made three-pointers four times this season, most recently in Ohio’s season finale against Bowling Green on March 3. Brown scored in double figures 13 times this season. 

Elmore James

James (Cleveland, Ohio) played in 29 games this season, making 13 starts for Ohio. Overall, James averaged 6.7 points, while shooting .518 from the field, .444 from three and .778 from the line. During MAC Play, James averaged 8.1 points and 2.2 rebounds, while shooting .500 from the field, .467 from three and .788 from the line. James scored a career-high 21 points at Toledo on Jan. 17 and grabbed a career-high six rebounds against NIU on Feb. 21. James also hit a career-high two made three-pointers six times this season, while hitting five free throws in a game twice. James had a 17-point performance for the Bobcats in Ohio’s season finale on March 3 against Bowling Green, going 6-of-9 from the field and 5-of-5 from the line. James has had eight double figure scoring games this year and has led the team in scoring twice. 
 
These four and the rest of the Ohio men’s basketball team returns to action on Thursday, March 9 against No. 4 Ball State in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 30 minutes following the end of game one and it can be seen on ESPN+.
