OHIO STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STAR TAYLOR MIKESELL NAMED TO 2023 NAISMITH WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE YEAR MIDSEASON TEAM

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Atlanta Tipoff Club released the 2023 Naismith Women’s Player of the Year Midseason Team in early February. Senior guard Taylor Mikesell made the list.

Mikesell has also been named to the Wooden Award midseason top-25 watch list and to the midseason top-10 for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award. She appeared on the preseason watch lists for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award, Naismith Women’s Player of the Year and Wooden Award. Mikesell was also selected to the Preseason All-Big Ten team by both the coaches (unanimous) and the media. She earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Jan. 9 and was on the weekly honor roll on Dec. 5.

Mikesell surpassed another milestone on Feb. 1 at Wisconsin, scoring her 1,000th point as a Buckeye despite this being her second season in Columbus. She is the 36th player in program history to score 1,000 points. Mikesell previously scored her 2,000th career point on Jan. 26 at Indiana.

Mikesell is averaging 18.2 ppg as a Buckeye and 14.1 ppg throughout her collegiate career. She leads the team in scoring with 17.6 ppg overall (eighth in B1G) and 18.0 ppg in conference play (ninth in B1G) as well as three-point shooting (3.1 triples per game, second in B1G) and captured her first Big Ten Player of the Week honors after scoring a season-high 31 points vs. Illinois (1/8). She is ninth in program history with 188 three-pointers made as a Buckeye and recently made her 400th career triple.
