Camara’s Double-Doubles Lead Dayton To A Pair Of Big Wins

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton forward Toumani Camara has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week after his efforts in wins over the two teams who entered the week in first and second place in the A-10.

Camara averaged 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting .700 (14-20) from the field and .800 (4-5) beyond the arc in Flyer wins over VCU and Saint Louis last week.

At first-place VCU on Tuesday, he had 26 points and 15 boards, and also had two steals.  His free throw with eight seconds left clinched the four-point win.

At home on Friday against Saint Louis, the Flyer captain had 17 points and 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season (and third consecutive).

Camara’s  leads the A-10 in rebounding.  His 9.3 rebounds a game is nearly a full rebound more than the next A-10 player, Francis Okoro of Saint Louis at 8.4.

For the season, the Brussels, Belgium native is also second for UD in scoring (14.0), minutes (31.2) FG% (.537, 138-257) and blocked shots (24).  He also leads the team in steals (32).

Dayton is 17-9 overall, and in second place in the Atlantic 10 with a 9-4 mark.  The Flyers are a half-game out of first place behind VCU, and are a half-game ahead of Fordham and Saint Louis, who are tied for third.  UD’s next game at Loyola on Friday, Feb. 17.  Game time is 7 p.m. ET.
