Blue Jackets lose a heartbreaker to the Devils

BLUE JACKETS TEAM NOTES

  • The Blue Jackets fell to 3-4-2 in their past nine games with tonight’s loss to the New Jersey Devils. 
  • Columbus fell to 15-4-1 in the series against the Devils dating back to Mar. 5, 2017 and had its seven-game home win streak dating back to Feb. 10, 2018 snapped. 
  • The winning team in the series has scored three or more goals in 11 of last 12 games in the series.
  • With one power play goal tonight, the Blue Jackets have now recorded power play goals in three of the last four meetings vs. New Jersey (3-of-11; 27.3 pct.) and four of the past six (4-of-17; 23.5 pct.).
  • Columbus has now scored on 6-of-25 power play chances (24.0 pct.) over its past nine games of the season.
  • The Blue Jackets killed off both Devils’ power play attempts tonight and have now killed off 29-of-35 opponent power play chances over the last 14 games (82.9 pct.).
  • The club’s blueliners posted 1-1-2 and have now recorded 7-17-24 in the last 15 games and 23-58-81 in 54 contests this season.
  • With D Adam Boqvist’s second period goal, the Blue Jackets are now tied for the League lead with 25 players to score a goal this season.

BLUE JACKETS PLAYER NOTES

«  The Blue Jackets were led by C Boone Jenner and LW Eric Robinson in shots (5), D Andrew Peeke in blocked shots (4) and D Erik Gudbranson in TOI (24:17).

«  LW Johnny Gaudreau tied for the team lead with his 15th goal of the season.  He has now collected points in eight of his last 10 games (2-8-10) and registered 3-10-13 in his last 14 contests (14-37-51 in 54 GP) . He improved to 6-17-23 in 15 career games against New Jersey, with points in all but three of his contests.  That includes points in seven of his eight home appearances (5-9-14) and each of the last five-straight (4-7-11).

«  D Adam Boqvist recorded one goal and one assist, giving him two multi-point efforts in his last five games (1-4-5; overall, 1-11-12 in 22 GP).

«  C Boone Jenner registered his 14th assist of the season to give him points in two consecutive games (1-2-3) and points in six of his last nine contests (4-3-7).  With 154 career assists, Jenner has surpassed Brandon Dubinsky (153) for the ninth most assists in franchise history.  He now has 10-8-18 in 31 career outings vs. the Devils, including 2-2-4 in his last four games overall and 3-6-9 with three multi-point efforts in his last eight home contests.

«  LW Patrik Laine tallied his 18th assist of the campaign and has now collected assists in seven of the past 10 outings (2-8-10).  He improved to 5-5-10 in 14 career games against New Jersey, including assists in each of his last three home contests (1-3-4).

«  D Gavin Bayreuther recorded his fifth assist of the season and now has 2-4-6 in his last 11 appearances (overall, 2-5-7 in 22 GP).
