Wright State begins final homestand of season with rematch against IUPUI Jaguars

DAYTON – The Wright State men’s basketball team welcomes IUPUI to the Nutter Center on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. tipoff in the first of two Raider home contests this week as Wright State wraps up its regular season home slate. The Raiders have won three of their last four games while IUPUI is coming off a win last Saturday to snap an 11-game losing skid. 

Fans can follow the action several ways – via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in on WONE 980 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play on the radio and ESPN feeds.

LAST TIME OUT
Trey Calvin scored 16 of his game-high 26 points in the second half, including 14 points down the stretch, as Wright State grabbed an 82-67 road victory at Robert Morris on Saturday night in Horizon League action. Brandon Noel tallied his eighth double-double of the season with his 16-point, 15-rebound effort, while Tim Finke narrowly missed a double-double of his own as he finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. With the nine boards, Finke became the 24th player in Wright State program history to grab 500 rebounds as a Raider while he now has over 600 total collegiate rebounds. AJ Braun was the final Raider in double digits with 10 points as he pulled down seven rebounds of his own, while all nine Wright State players who saw action found the scoring column and eight Raiders grabbed at least one rebound.

A SERIES CALLED JAG(S)
IUPUI is 4-21 this season and coming off a Saturday home win over Green Bay. Five Raiders finished in double figures in the teams’ first meeting of the year, led by Trey Calvin’s game-high 21 points, while Amari Davis and Brandon Noel each added 14 points. Wright State and IUPUI have previously met 23 times entering Wednesday’s action, with the Raiders leading the series 20-3 having won the last 11 meetings and 14 of the last 15 matchups overall. IUPUI won the first game of the series back on Nov. 29, 1976 (89-84) but the Raiders have had almost all the success in the series since. 

EYING IUPUI
-IUPUI is 4-21 overall and 1-13 in Horizon League play after a 68-53 home win over Green Bay last Saturday. Three of the IUPUI’s four wins have come at home, where the Jags are 3-8, against NCAA Division III foes Franklin College (59-45) and Spalding University (75-53) and the win over Green Bay. The other victory came on a neutral floor against Texas A&M Commerce (62-52), who is in its first year transitioning to NCAA Division I.
-The Jaguars are 0-10 in true road contests to date and start a four-game road stretch with the visit to the Nutter Center on Wednesday night.

NATIONALLY SPEAKING
Wright State’s 49.7 overall season shooting percentage to date is 6th-best in the country behind Gonzaga (1, 52.0 percent), Colgate (2, 50.5), Xavier (3, 50.2), Marquette (4, 50.0) and Indiana (5, 49.9). Trey Calvin’s 391 total field goal attempts is No. 6 nationally and his 190 field goals made is ranked 7th, while Brandon Noel’s 59.8 percent field goal percentage is tops in the Horizon League and is No. 24 nationally in shooting percentage.

24 BECOMES 24
With nine rebounds against Robert Morris on Feb. 4, Tim Finke surpassed 500 career rebounds as a Raider, becoming the 24th player in Wright State history to reach the 500 rebound mark as a member of the Green & Gold. Finke now has over 600 total collegiate rebounds in his career.

DOUBLING DOWN
Brandon Noel’s eight double-doubles to date is the third-most the Horizon League, while Noel has tallied a HL-best six double-doubles in League play. Noel has recorded double figures scoring 16 times with five games of 20-plus points. On the glass, he has the 10 double-digit rebound games and has five-plus rebounds in 21 contests.
