The Ohio State junior has a pair of Top 5 finishes in four events this season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Maxwell Moldovan has been named to the watch list for the 2023 Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank. The joint announcement was made by the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

The Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank annually awards the top men’s NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur and professional events over the previous 12 months.

Moldovan had a great start to the season this fall, averaging 70.67 and finishing in the Top 15 in all four events. He was third at the Inverness Intercollegiate and followed that with a runner-up finish at the Hamptons Intercollegiate. Moldovan led the team with five rounds in the 60s and nine of his 12 rounds were at par or better.

The Uniontown, Ohio native is a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and earned third team All-American honors last season. His 27 career rounds in the 60s are the most in program history and he currently holds at 71.13 career scoring average.

An esteemed selection committee votes during each stage of the process. The selection committee is comprised of more than 30 leaders in collegiate, amateur and professional golf. The Ben Hogan Award presented by PNC Bank has honored the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer at Colonial Country Club since 2002. Prior to its move to Fort Worth, the original Ben Hogan Trophy, which was awarded based on a different list of criteria, was issued at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles beginning in 1990.
