INDIANAPOLIS (1/19/2023) — University of Detroit Mercy graduate senior Antoine Davis has made another midseason watch list as he is one of the top 50 candidates for the U.S. Basketball Writers Association’s Oscar Robertson Trophy.

Since the 1958-59 season, the USBWA has named a National Player of the Year. In 1998, the award was named in honor of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year Oscar Robertson. It is the nation’s oldest award and the only one named after a former player.

Davis is currently leading the nation in scoring at 26.2 points per game and total field goals with 165. He also tops the Horizon League and is second in the country in total 3-pointers (84), 3-pointers per game (4.42) and total points (498). On the season, he has a league-best 16, 20-point games and five 30-point outings, and his 41 points against Robert Morris last week is tied for the ninth-highest in the nation.

The only four-time First Team All-Horizon League selection in conference history, Davis just became the NCAA all-time 3-point record holder as he nailed a career-high 11 triples en route to overtaking the 509 mark and now has 513 in his career. He is also the NCAA record holder for most 3-pointers by a freshman (132) and consecutive games in double figures (130).

His 3,232 points are third in NCAA history, just 17 away from second place and Freeman Williams (Portland State, 1974-78 – 3,249) and 435 behind Pete Maravich’s NCAA-record 3,667, while his 1,081 career field goals are 15th in the NCAA record book. He is also just six games away from breaking the NCAA record for most career games in double-figure scoring (Creighton’s Doug McDermott, 2010-14, – 135).

Davis was recently named to the Midseason Top 25 Watch List for the Wooden Award for the nation’s Most Outstanding Player, the only mid-major player on the list.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the entire USBWA membership will vote for the award. The winner of the award will be announced at the 2023 Men’s Final Four in Houston with the formal presentation to follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Davis and the Titans will be in action on Saturday as they visit IUPUI.
