INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON – For the second straight week, Wright State men’s basketball redshirt-freshman Brandon Noel has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the League office announced on Monday.
Noel had a second-straight huge week, averaging 27.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as he tallied a career-high 32 points at Green Bay and followed that with a 23-point effort in the win over HL-leading Milwaukee as Wright State went 2-0 on the week.
Noel shot 14-of-17 from the floor against Green Bay on the way to the career-best 32 points, pulling down 10 of his 12 rebounds on the defensive glass as he tallied his fourth consecutive double-double. He added to his recent surge on Saturday, tallying 23 points on 9-12 overall shooting while adding a pair of three-pointers, just missing out on another double-double with a nine rebound effort. For the week, Noel averaged just shy of 37 minutes while shooting an astounding 79 percent from the floor with the 27.5 points/game and 10.5 rebounds/game marks, adding in four blocks, three steals and three assists to complete his week.
Since the calendar flipped to January, Noel is averaging a double-double in five contests while shooting 71 percent on his way to 20.2 points/game and 13.6 rebounds/game marks against Horizon League foes. For the season, Noel is averaging 13.9 points per contest, a mark that jumps to 17.0 points per game against HL competition as he’s averaging a double-double in HL play with his 10.6 rebounds per contest as well.
Wright State now returns home to the Nutter Center for its next four contests, welcoming Purdue Fort Wayne this Thursday and Cleveland State on Saturday before return matchups with Green Bay and Milwaukee next weekend to close out the month of January.
