COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State heads to Piscataway looking to right the ship and sweep the season series from Rutgers when the teams meet for a Sunday matinee. Tip-off is set for 2:15 p.m. inside Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, N.J. and it will be televised on BTN. Lisa Byington and Jess Settles will call the action.

  • The teams have met 14 times previously, with all but one of those meetings coming since Rutgers joined the Big Ten in 2014. Ohio State leads the all-time series 11-4 and is 11-2 in Big Ten Conference games.
  • Ohio State got a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Tanner Holden to knock-off Rutgers 67-66 on Dec. 8 to remain undefeated against the Scarlet Knights in Columbus. The Buckeyes are 4-2 all-time at Jersey Mike’s Arena, splitting the last two trips over the last two seasons.
  • As heart-breaking as this year’s loss was for Rutgers, the Buckeyes experienced a similar feeling in Piscataway last year. Ohio State led 64-56 with 3:48 to play but wouldn’t score the rest of the way as Rutgers came back for a 66-64 victory.
  • The Buckeyes are on a skid but a big win against Rutgers could be just what they need to turn it around.
  • For as much as OSU struggled defensively against Minnesota on Thursday, the Buckeyes did hold Minnesota without a field goal in the final five minutes, allowing for the comeback.
  • The Buckeye offense, which is still the third-most efficient offense in the country according to Kenpom, is led by freshman Brice Sensabaugh who is averaging 16.8 points per game.
  • 45 percent of OSU’s scoring this season has come from it’s freshmen and they have played almost 42 percent of the minutes. Both averages are in the Top 10 in the country.
  • Sensabaugh is third in the country among freshmen scorers (16.8) and has averaged 19.3 points per game while shooting 50 percent over the last eight games as a starter.
  • Ohio State is second in the Big Ten in both field goal percentage (48.2) and three-point field goal percentage (38.7). The Buckeyes have been selective with their three-point attempts as they are averaging the third-fewest attempts per game in the league.
  • Rebounding has been something the Buckeyes have hung their hat on this season. They are third in the Big Ten in rebounding margin (+6.5) and the Minnesota game on Thursday was the first time this season they lost when out-rebounding the opponent.
  • Sean McNeil has made a three-pointer in all but one game this season and is averaging almost two per game in five Big Ten games. He is just 16 three-pointers away from 200 in his career.
