Alex Ovechkin, Capitals too much for Blue Jackets in 6-2 loss

BLUE JACKETS TEAM NOTES

  • The Blue Jackets lost their second consecutive game tonight falling 6-2 to the Washington Capitals.  The club also fell to 7-7-1 in the last 15 games at Nationwide Arena.
  • Columbus now has points in eight of the last 13 games in the series against Washington dating back to Feb. 26, 2018 (7-5-1), but the Capitals have won five of the last six (CBJ; 1-4-1).
  • The Blue Jackets fell to 3-4-0 in the last seven games in the series at Nationwide Arena.
  • The road team in the series has won the last three meetings and is 8-3-1 in the last 12 contests.
  • The winning team in the series has scored four-plus goals in five of the last eight games.
  • Columbus’ blueliners posted 1-1-2 tonight and have now recorded 3-6-9 in the last six contests and 16-40-56 in 37 games this season.
  • With D Gavin Bayreuther’s goal tonight, the Blue Jackets have now had a league-high 23 different players score a goal this season.

«  The Blue Jackets were led by D Erik Gudbranson in hits (4), D Adam Boqvist in blocked shots (3) and D Vladislav Gavrikov in TOI (22:06).

«  The NHL announced that LW Johnny Gaudreau was selected to his seventh NHL All-Star Game tonight.  He scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season (tied) to give him 4-16-20 with points in 12 of his last 18 contests (overall 11-27-38 in 37 GP).  He has now recorded points in 16 of his 22 home games this season (10-18-28).  The forward improved to 2-13-15 in 15 career outings vs. the Capitals, including points in nine of his last 10 games (2-11-13).

«  RW Emil Bemstrom notched his first career NHL multi-assist game with two assists and now has 3-2-5 in his last seven games with the Blue Jackets dating back to Nov. 19 (overall 4-4-8 in 11 GP).

«  D Gavin Bayreuther scored his first goal of the season to give him 1-1-2 in the last three games (overall 1-2-3 in 15 appearances).

«  D Adam Boqvist registered an assist, giving him 0-2-2 in nine appearances this season.
