Xavier Musketeers Men’s Basketball hosts Seton Hall in BIG EAST Home Opener

CINCINNATI — The Xavier University Musketeers, 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST Conference, host the Seton Hall University Pirates, 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the BIG EAST, in their league home opener on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. at Cintas Center.

Xavier is looking for its sixth-straight win and is also looking to snap a three-game losing streak against Seton Hall.

FACTORS

Xavier, 9-3 overall, won its fifth-straight game, 102-89 at Georgetown on Friday in the BIG EAST Conference opener for both teams. XU now is 8-2 in BIG EAST openers.

• Xavier leads the nation in assists per game at 21.1 apg. In addition, XU leads the BIG EAST and is third in the nation in overall field goal percentage (.516) and 3-point field goal percentage (.423). XU leads the BIG EAST in scoring at 84.8 ppg. (11th in the nation). 

• Xavier graduate student Souley Boum is the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week, his third-straight week with a BIG EAST honor. He averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two XU wins.

• Xavier’s Souley Boum led the team in scoring for the eighth time in 12 games with an XU career-high 28 points at Georgetown, marking one of the top 10 scoring efforts ever for a player playing in his first BIG EAST game. Boum leads the team in scoring (second in BIG EAST at 17.9 ppg.) and is second in assists (10th in BIG EAST at 4.4 apg.).

• Xavier junior Colby Jones, who was named Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team, leads XU in assists at 5.8 apg. (third in the BIG EAST and 17th in the nation) to go with 14.6 ppg., which ranks third on the team and 16th in the BIG EAST. 

• Xavier graduate student Jack Nunge, who was named Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team, is second the team in scoring at 15.5 ppg. (10th in the BIG EAST) and leads the team in rebounding at 7.5 rpg. (seventh in the BIG EAST).

• Xavier’s balanced scoring attack boasts five players in double figures in scoring (four in the top 25 in the BIG EAST): Souley Boum (17.9 ppg.), Jack Nunge (15.5 ppg.), Colby Jones (14.6 ppg.), Zach Freemantle (13.6 ppg.) and Adam Kunkel (10.8 ppg.).

• Xavier senior Zach Freemantle is second on the team in rebounding at 7.3 rpg. (tied for ninth in the BIG EAST) and leads the team with four double-doubles. 

• Xavier’s Sean Miller, a former BIG EAST standout at Pitt, won his first BIG EAST game as a head coach at Georgetown. He is the fifth-winningest active Div. I head coach (by win percentage) among head coaches with at least 10 years. He is 431-159 (.731).
