Red Sox announce roster moves

11/10/2022

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Reinstated left-handed pitchers James PaxtonChris Sale, and Josh Taylor, right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck, and first baseman/outfielder Franchy Cordero from the 60-Day Injured List.
  • Selected infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez to the active Major League roster.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Valdez, 23, was acquired from the Houston Astros in August along with minor league outfielder Wilyer Abreu in exchange for catcher Christian Vázquez. Ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox’ No. 16 prospect, the left-handed hitter batted .296 (148-for-500) with 92 runs, 35 doubles, two triples, 28 home runs, and 107 RBI in 126 games last season between Double-A and Triple-A. Named to MLB Pipeline’s Prospect Team of the Year First Team at second base, Valdez was one of only four minor league players with at least 35 doubles, 25 home runs, and 100 RBI in 2022. Originally signed by Houston as an international free agent in 2015, the Dominican native has hit .257 (462-for-1,800) with an .803 OPS in 487 minor league games in the Astros (2015-22) and Red Sox (2022) systems. Valdez has made 261 starts at second base, 128 at third base, 17 in left field, six at first base, two at shortstop, and one in right field.
