CINCINNATI – Major League Soccer today announced the finalists for the 2022 MLS Year-End Awards, and FC Cincinnati’s Brenner has been nominated as a finalist for the MLS Young Player of the Year award.
Brenner joins Thiago Almada (Atlanta United FC) and Jesús Ferreira (Dallas FC) as a finalist for the award. Finalists for each award category were based on votes from a group of current MLS players, MLS clubs (coaches, technical directors/general managers) and select media from around the country.
FC Cincinnati’s 22-year-old forward has enjoyed a breakout season in his second year with the Orange and Blue, scoring 18 goals and tallying six assists. Brenner capped an impressive regular season with his third hat trick of the season against D.C. United on Decision Day, leading FCC to their first berth in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. His three hat tricks in 2022 mark just the sixth time in MLS history a player has accomplished that feat.
The Brazilian forward’s breakout season finished in strong form as he scored nine goals and recorded two assists over his final five games of the regular season. His nine goals in September and October are tied for the most in any five-game stretch in a single season in MLS history.
This season, Brenner has been named the MLS Player of the Week three times (Weeks 17, 30, 34), one of just two players to accomplish that this season (Hany Mukhtar, NSH). He also earned the title of MLS Player of the Month for September/October and was named the MLS Team of the Week four times.
Winners of each award will be announced throughout the Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs.
