The Blue Jackets began their 22nd season losing at the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 on Wednesday night.
*Patrik Laine’s goal opened the scoring in the first period. But an upper-body injury knocked him out of the game.

*23-year-old goaltender Daniil Tarasov who made just his fourth NHL start with Elvis Merzlikins unable to play due to an illness. The young netminder stopped 39 of Carolina’s 43 shots on goal in his first game since last January 1, when he suffered a hip injury that required season-ending surgery.
*The Canes dominated in the face-off circle, winning 61 percent of draws,
*Carolina outshot the Jackets 43-32.

*Johnny Gaudreau, Mathieu Olivier and defenseman Erik Gudbranson were the three players to make their Blue Jackets debuts. They became the 315th, 316th and 317th players in team history.
