Big Ten News: Week 4 Football Recaps

THURSDAY, SEPT. 22
ILLINOIS 31, Chattanooga 0: Chase Brown became the first Illinois running back to rush for 100-plus yards in five straight games, Tommy DeVito passed for 329 yards and three touchdowns and the Fighting Illini blanked Chattanooga 31-0 on Thursday night. Illinois improved to 3-1 and is off to its best start since 2015. [FULL RECAP]

SATURDAY, SEPT. 24
MICHIGAN 34, MARYLAND 27: Blake Corum rushed for a career-high 243 yards and two touchdowns and No. 4 Michigan topped Maryland 34-27 in the Big Ten opener for both teams on Saturday. Corum, who tied the school record with five rushing touchdowns against UConn a week earlier, had a career-high 30 carries. He became the first Michigan back to rush for 200 yards since Karan Higdon in 2017. J.J. McCarthy completed 18 of 26 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolverines. [FULL RECAP]
 
PENN STATE 33, Central Michigan 14:
 Sean Clifford completed 22 of 34 passes for 217 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to lead No. 14 Penn State past Central Michigan 33-14 on Saturday. Tight end Brenton Strange caught two touchdowns and Mitchell Tinsley caught one. Clifford and Kaytron Allen added touchdown runs for the Nittany Lions. Penn State forced four turnovers. [FULL RECAP]

MINNESOTA 34, MICHIGAN STATE 7: Tanner Morgan threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns and Mohamed Ibrahim rushed for 103 yards and a score to lead Minnesota to a 34-7 rout over Michigan State in the Big Ten opener for both schools. The Gophers (4-0) are off to their best start since they began the 2019 season 9-0. [FULL RECAP]
 
Cincinnati 45, INDIANA 24:
 Ben Bryant passed for 314 of his 354 yards in the first half with a career-high four touchdowns, and Tyler Scott had career-highs with 185 receiving yards and three TDs, as Cincinnati defeated Indiana 45-24 on Saturday. [FULL RECAP]

IOWA 27, RUTGERS 10: Cooper DeJean scored on a 45-yard interception return and Keavon Merriweather returned a fumble 30 yards for another first-half touchdown as Iowa rode its defense to 27-10 victory over Rutgers on Saturday night. Leshon Williams scored on a 2-yard run and Drew Stevens kicked two field goals as the Hawkeyes handed Rutgers its 20th straight Big Ten Conference loss at home. [FULL RECAP]
 
Miami (OH) 17, NORTHWESTERN 14:
 Miami (OH) mounted a 13-play, 58-yard drive, culminating in a 36-yard field goal from with :21 left in the ballgame, as Northwestern lost 17-14 to the RedHawks on Saturday night at Ryan Field. Ryan Hilinski led Northwestern’s passing attack with 257 yards through the air. The signal caller also added one touchdown on the ground, his second-straight game with a rushing touchdown. OHIO STATE 52, WISCONSIN 21:
 Cade Stover and Emeka Egbuka each caught two of C.J. Stroud’s five touchdown passes, Miyan Williams rushed for two more scores and No. 3 Ohio State blew by Wisconsin early and cruised to a 52-21 win on Saturday night. The Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) scored touchdowns on their first four drives and led 31-7 at the half. Wisconsin could only slow them down after that but didn’t get closer than 21 points. PURDUE 28, FAU 26: Austin Burton threw two touchdown passes in the first half and finished with three while leading Purdue to a 28-26 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday. Burton made his first career start with the Boilermakers (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) after the Big Ten’s leading passer, Aidan O’Connell, was ruled out with an undisclosed injury. [FULL RECAP]
