Columbus Blue Jackets News: OPENING 2022 TRAINING CAMP, PRESENTED BY OHIOHEALTH, ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21

Players report for physicals and fitness testing Wednesday before taking the ice for the first time Thursday

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets begin preparations for their 22nd National Hockey League season with the opening of training camp, presented by OhioHealth, on Wednesday, September 21.  Players will report for physicals at McConnell Spine, Sport and Joint Center beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday with fitness testing to follow at Nationwide Arena.  Players will be available for interviews between 9-11 a.m. in the CoLab pres. by Continental Office on event level at Nationwide Arena (near McConnell Entrance) on Wednesday.

The team will conduct the first team on-ice practices on Thursday, September 22 at OhioHealth Ice Haus.  The first scrimmages are slated for Friday, September 23 with three groups taking part in practice and scrimmages between 9 a.m.-1:20 p.m. at OhioHealth Ice Haus.

All practice sessions in the OhioHealth Ice Haus (see full schedule below) beginning Saturday, September 24 are open to the public.  Doors open at 9 a.m. on Saturday with games and prizes at the McConnell Street Plaza.  The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Blue Jackets T-shirt courtesy of OhioHealth.

The training camp roster consists of 68 players (40 forwards, 21 defensemen, seven goaltenders).  The players will be divided into three groups for all sessions from September 22-October 1.  The Blue Jackets open their eight-game preseason schedule on Sunday, September 25 with split-squad games against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  The teams will meet at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. and at Nationwide Arena at 7 p.m.  The club will open the regular season on Wednesday, October 12 at the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena before opening the home slate on Thursday, October 14 vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning at Nationwide Arena.
