First professional soccer-specific venue in the United States to host over 400 athletes in age groups 6U-14U
COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew, in conjunction with Legacy Youth Sports, today announced that Historic Crew Stadium is set to serve as the home of the Legacy Youth Football League City Championships on Oct. 29.
The City Championships will host more than 400 athletes in the 6U-14U age groups, as they compete for the “Legacy Lombardi” Trophy. Participating athletes will be granted access to Historic Crew Stadium locker rooms, have the opportunity to enter the field through the player tunnels, and hear their names called through the PA system when involved in a play. Each game will feature a special in-game announcer.
The Legacy Youth Football League is an innovative non-profit organization based in Columbus, Ohio, which focuses on finding effective ways to reach inadequately resourced youth. All of the organization’s events are presented by the City of Columbus’ Department of Neighborhoods.
Historic Crew Stadium is the first soccer-specific stadium in the United States and served as the home of Columbus Crew from 1999-2021, before the Black & Gold moved into its new state-of-the-art venue Lower.com Field in July of 2021. Currently, Historic Crew Stadium serves as the home of Columbus Crew 2 and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) boys’ and girls’ lacrosse state championships. Previously, the venue hosted the OHSAA soccer state championships from 1999-2020.
Tickets for the Legacy Youth Football League City Championships are slated to go on sale on October 23 and will be available online at www.lyfleague.org/tickets.
