The Columbus Crew Management had a vision before the season to incorporate younger players into their top team. The organization is loaded with young talent on the Crew 2 team which has run right through every team in the MLS Next Pro league except Rochester NY FC. And two of their emerging stars fueled Wednesday’s 2-1 win at Toronto FC last Wednesday night.
Jacen Russell-Rowe, 19-year-old Canadian, who used to play for Toronto FC’s Academy program, had two assists to help the Columbus Crew win its fifth game of the season. He signed a first-team contract with the Crew Columbus on Wednesday after leading the MLS Next Pro League with 11 goals for the talented Crew 2.
The Columbus goals, set up by Russell-Rowe, came from Ohio native and Georgetown Hoya product, 22-year old Sean Zawadzski and Darlington Nagbe.
The Crew is now 5-5-6, 21 points. Toronto FC drops to 5-9-3, 18 points. Crew passed Toronto in the MLS Eastern Conference Standings with the win.
