MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Cole Sands from Triple-A St. Paul.
Sands has gone 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA (8.0 IP, 7 ER), four walks and 10 strikeouts in three appearances (1 start) for the Twins this season. The 24-year-old is in his fifth stint with Minnesota this season, after previously being with the club from April 30-May 2, May 6-7, May 12 and May 31. He is scheduled to start tonight vs. the New York Yankees.
To make room on the 26-man roster, the Twins have placed outfielder Kyle Garlick on the 10-day Injured List (retroactive to June 4) with a left hamstring strain. Garlick has hit .250 (15-for-60) with one double, six home runs, 14 RBI, six walks, 11 runs scored, a .567 slugging percentage and an .890 OPS in 28 games for the Twins this season. This is his second stint on the Injured List this year, after missing 13 games from May 2-May 16 with a right calf strain.
