COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded forward Max Domi and a sixth-round pick previously acquired from Toronto in the 2022 NHL Draft to the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Tyler Inamoto. The club then traded Inamoto to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Aidan Hreschuk, General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The Blue Jackets are also retaining 50 percent on the rest of Domi’s salary for the 2021-22 season.
Hreschuk, 19, recently completed his freshman season at Boston College, tallying one goal and seven assists for eight points with 23 penalty minutes and a +9 plus/minus rating in 37 games. The 5-11, 178-pound native of Long Beach, California was selected by Carolina in the third round, 94th overall, at the 2021 NHL Draft.
Prior to joining Boston College, Hreschuk spent two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2019-21. In 2020-21, he collected 6-31-37 and was +28 in 50 games with the U.S. National U-18 Team and added 3-14-17 and was +15 in 23 USHL contests with the USNTDP Junior Team. He helped Team USA capture a silver medal at the IIHF World Hockey U17 Championships in 2019-20.
Domi, 27, collected 18-38-56 with 112 penalty minutes in 107 games with the Blue Jackets after joining the club from Montreal via trade on Oct. 6, 2020. In 53 games this season, he has tallied 9-23-32 and 37 penalty minutes, while averaging 13:25 of ice time. In 2020-21, he picked up 9-15-24 and a team-high 75 penalty minutes in 54 games during his first season as a Blue Jacket.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native is playing in his seventh NHL season and has registered 99-208-307 and 412 penalty minutes in 482 career games with Columbus, Montreal and Arizona. He was originally selected by the Coyotes in the first round, 12th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft.
